Oxford North’s new landmark timber cycle pavilion approved by Oxford City Council

Plans have been approved by Oxford City Council to create a new landmark timber cycle pavilion in the heart of Oxford North to provide secure long-stay and short-stay spaces for phase 1a of Oxford’s new £700 million innovation district.

Designed by the project’s masterplanners Fletcher Priest Architects on behalf of Oxford North Ventures, the prominent two-storey radial building, which was inspired by wheel spokes, will be located in the new market square alongside the Red Hall and central park.

Oxford North’s central landscape, market square and children’s play area given green light

Detailed designs for Oxford North’s new central park, landscaped areas including a wildflower meadow, woodland, pond and children’s play area along with the new public square located to the north of the Red Hall, have been resolved to be approved by Oxford City Council’s planning committee.

Oxford North will deliver one million sq ft (92,903 sq m) of laboratory and workspaces, 480 new homes, hotel, nursery, cafes, bars, three public parks and infrastructure.

Detailed designs for three new, prestigious laboratory and office buildings which total 458,100 sq ft (42,549 sq m) and will be built as phase 2 of Oxford North, the new £700 million life sciences innovation district, have been resolved to be approved by Oxford City Council’s planning committee.

The Hill Group agrees 111 affordable homes deal with Oxford City Council

Oxford City Council has announced the acquisition of 111 much-needed affordable homes from award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group at Oxford North’s Canalside development, south of the A40.

The new homes, part of the first 317 energy-efficient new homes that Hill is delivering at Canalside, will bring vital affordable housing to the Oxford market, which currently ranks among the most unaffordable places to live in the UK.

Oxford North creates 448 new construction jobs and eight apprenticeships

Since building works started in August 2021, Oxford North, the new innovation district in Oxford, has created 448 new construction jobs of which 22% were filled by people based in Oxfordshire and eight new apprentices have been employed through the project’s construction partners.

The reserved matters application (RMA) at Oxford North’s Canalside for the project’s residential development partner, The Hill Group to deliver the first 317 new homes has been resolved to be approved by Oxford City Council’s planning committee at a meeting held on Thursday 22 September 2022.

With outline planning permission for Oxford North’s overall masterplan granted in March 2021 for 480 new homes across the project, Hill made the application for the detailed design of the first 317 homes on Canalside, south of the A40.
